On Friday, 2 December 2011 at approximately 2:31 a.m., James V. Gobble was driving the wrong direction on Highway 40/64 in Chesterfield, Missouri. Gobble struck another car and was then taken to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur where he passed away a short time later. The driver of the other car, Jorge P. Hernandez, suffered minor injuries. Hernandez was wearing a seat belt. It is unclear if Gobble was wearing a seat belt.
